Decor Tips 2 years ago Battery Pack For Lamp Solution
I shared this on Instagram and wanted to put it on the blog for your reference in case you’re ever looking to DIY a battery operated plug for a lamp.
When we moved into our new home, I found myself sitting in the living room with absolutely nowhere to plug in my floor lamp. This led me down a long rabbit hole online and into finding an incredible solution. The only hiccup I had was that the exact lamp I was trying to power up
PLEASE NOTE: This battery-powered plug is for LOW-VOLTAGE electronics only.
WHAT YOU NEED:
12 V Low Voltage LED Lights {super important! No other bulbs will work}
1. Attach Battery Pack to Wall Outlet
Your battery pack came with a wire like the below. The left side plugs into the batter pack and the two wires need to screw into the Wall Outlet. Be sure to pick one of the plugs and get the red wire and the black wire to screw into the screws on both sides of the same plug.
Be sure the wires are touching the metal underneath the screws. Gently, yet firmly, tighten the screws to secure the wires.
2. Add Batteries and Connect the Snap
Add all 8 of the batters and plug the cord snap onto the battery pack.
3. Screw your 12V lightbulb into the Lamp
After your lightbulb is screwed into your lamp, plug your lamp into the portable plug you have just created and voila!
4. Hide The Evidence
Tuck the plug contraption under the couch, below a desk or hide it in a decorative basket and enjoy a plug free lighting solution!
Troubleshooting:
If your lamp doesn’t turn on, be sure that the wires are properly attached to the outlet. The wires are so small but they need to actually hit the screws and be a secure connection.
The first time I tried this was on a European lamp and for some reason it didn’t work. I will update this blog post once I figure out “why” it didn’t work on my euro-lamp.
Special thank you to this blog for the amazing instructions and recommendations! Another AMAZING recommendation from one of my readers are these battery operated puck lights that you can stick into lamps.
